The
place
Bahía San Blas
What makes of Isla del Jabalí a fishing paradise? Without a doubt,
the result of a combination of many factors: it has few waves (due
to the presence of many islands) but it`s not deep enough to be
a sea bottom, and it is situated in a privileged enclave, where
the Argentinean Sea reaches the shore with its waters, that is also
warm in winter, thanks to the Brazilian Current.
In front of the coast there are a number of islands, like Isla
de los Césares (Caesars Island), Isla del Sur (Island of
the South), Isla Flamenco (Flamingo Island), Isla Gama and Isla
del Jabalí and many others, many of which can be seen from the boardwalk
in San Blas. Isla del Jabalí is sometimes an island, when the water
rises and the ria grows to separate the only strip of earth that
connects island to continent. Others, it is considered a peninsula,
when both portions of earth are connected in Paso Seco (Dry Path).
Isla del Jabalí is located in the southern coast of the province
of Buenos Aires, 100 kilometers from Carmen de Patagones, 340 from
Bahía Blanca and 986 from Buenos Aires (the capital city). On the
shore, the small fisherman’s town of Bahía San Blas is a place that
offers many facilities from fishing gear, grocer’s shops, lodging
to petrol station.
